I have embroidered the little beach girl directly onto the bottom of the basket. The top edge is hand braided. The teal blue seahorse is totally made from thread in a style called "free standing lace" It is stiffened to hold its shape.
I have sewn the basket, using my home sewing machine, before I stitched the inside bottom girl design.
